About Me

Sarah Gausden’s Art as a business was born in 2015 after a friend asked me to do a pastel pet portrait.

Drawing and painting has always been a hobby. It is my relaxation and takes me to another world!

I qualified as an Occupational Therapist and worked in the NHS until I had a family and we moved from Hampshire to Cambridgeshire. I decided to take a break. I then signed up for an Adult Education Class in Ely. That made me realise my passion and desire to share it with others.I was also encouraged by my friends from the art group.

I did O and A level art at school . That was a few years ago now and the rest is self taught. Initially I did pet portraits for friends and family. I have now widened my portfolio with monochrome drawings of historical buildings. E.g. Ely Cathedral. As an animal lover I have done many portraits of my own pets. I love to see them on the wall evoking happy memories. I wanted something different to share as a memory, a niche.

So I tried pet portraits on slate hearts using acrylic paint.. They are an affordable memory or keepsake. I work from a photograph and spray with a Matt varnish before posting. They have been sent worldwide and are my best sellers. For more portrait detail I use pastels on paper, usually 12x10inches and more traditional. I always leave the eyes until last and love seeing the portrait develop. The eyes really bring the character alive. The most important part. I mostly paint the eyes with gouache and watercolour. I now have artwork in Ely Cathedral, Hidden Treasures Burwell, Boston Stump, Lincs  and South Angle Farm Park. I enjoy sharing what I do.

My pets have been and always will be part of the family. They brighten my life!

I try to demonstrate the character in any painting / drawing.
